Doctor of Education (EdD)

The Doctor of Education degree is intended to train individuals to be effective education administrators, researchers, educators, and educational professionals to become qualified school administrators at all levels of education from elementary school on up. The program focuses on preparing individuals for teaching positions in K-12 grade schools and higher education. The Doctorate Degree also allows graduates to teach in higher education settings such as colleges, universities, and various community colleges. Some of the classes offered in the program include mathematics, science, and social sciences; teaching and leadership; education theory; research methods; and history, philosophy, and women’s studies. Students can expect to take classes in all areas of education as a method of completing their course work while also obtaining specialized hands-on experience as well as on-the-job training.

The Doctorate in Education degree is a doctorate program that the Commission has accredited on Accreditation for Doctoral Schools and Colleges. Before enrolling in an Ed.D. program, candidates must first complete their Master’s degree, which is usually a combination of education courses with a strong focus on the liberal arts.

There are many universities, colleges, and other post-secondary institutions that offer Ph.D. in Education programs. Most universities in the United States have a Doctorate program. Even universities abroad offer doctorates in education for those who choose to go to other countries to study.
